BAND
Being a part of a well-structured school music program can help students build their social skills. It can help shape self-confidence, gives a sense of self-accomplishment, fosters teamwork and provides students a safe social setting to make long lasting friendships and a feeling of belonging.
Santa Anna provides band classes beginning in 4th - 6th grades where they learn to play the recorder.
The Mountaineer bands consist of the following:
- Mighty Mountaineer Marching band
- Concert band
Both bands compete in UIL events and consistently get high marks.
ART
By offering art education in the school system, all children get a chance to stimulate their imaginations, as well as their cognitive and problem-solving skills. Art instruction helps children with the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness.
Santa Anna offers the following art classes:
- Art I, II, III
- Principles of AAVTC (multimedia)
- Commercial Photography I, II
THEATER
Theatre in the high school is both an academic discipline and a performing art. A study of theatre motivates students to study and develop ideas, insights and values. The primary component of theatre– dialogue– provides a uniquely effective method for studying the communicative functions of human language.
Theatre also provides a unique kind of learning through vicarious experience known as empathy. Empathy is one of the most effective modes of learning through discovery because it involves students in an exploration of the thoughts and feelings of other people.
Santa Anna offers
- Theater Arts I, II, III
- 8th Grade Theater
They produce and compete in UIL One-Act Play annually.
