COPPA

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a federal law governing the online collection of personal information from children under 13. Santa Anna ISD utilizes several educational software applications and web-based services that are operated by third parties. In order for our students to use these valuable programs and services, certain personal identifying information, generally, the student's name and username and/or email address, must be provided to the website operator. Under federal law, these websites must provide parental notification and obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13. The law permits schools to consent to the collection of personal information on behalf of all of its students, eliminating the need for individual parental consent given directly to the website operator. These outside parties are under the District's direct control with respect to the use and maintenance of student data.
