Santa Anna High School’s girls' basketball season is off to a great start, with a win against Lometa on Tuesday, Nov. 8. We asked some junior and senior team members to give us their perspective on the upcoming season. They also discussed some of the challenges they face, what it takes to be a true team player, and who inspired them to be their best on and off the court. Here’s what they had to say:
“I am extremely excited for this season. I improve every day in practice. Thinking about Coach Craig makes me handle pressure in the game. Being a Senior is a sweet feeling. My favorite basketball player is Paige Bueckers, because she is an admirable player and she inspired me.” -Kylee
“When someone criticizes me, I get frustrated, but I do not let them know. I try to improve my shooting skills and increase my speed. I handle pressure by trying to not get mad at other people during the game. My favorite NBA player is Michael Jordan, because if he can play at 53 years old, that means that I can too.” -Linda
“I am a good team player. I try not to get mad when I mess up. When someone says something bad about me, I take it in a positive way, and I try to fix it. Sometimes I get frustrated if I can’t make my shots. My Favorite basketball player is Kyrie Irving. He is a talented player who learns from his mistakes and becomes better.” -Natani
“I am a hard worker. I improve my skills by practicing and giving my everything in the games. I am excited because this is my Senior year”. -Carly
“I believe that I am nothing without my team. I overcame myself by trying to give my best attitude. If someone says something bad about me, I prove them wrong and I work better and harder. My favorite basketball player is Cynthia Cooper. She is a legend who is determined to prove her doubters wrong.” -Jayda
