Six Santa Anna FFA Greenhand members traveled to Stephenville for the Tarleton Invitational Leadership Development Event Contest, one of the largest invitational LDE contests in the country. Ryan Walker, Ellie McIver, Grayce Kysor, and Jammie Frausto make up the Santa Anna FFA Greenhand Skills team. Tatum Cantu and Abi Petrosky are the Santa Anna FFA Greenhand Creed Speakers.
The skills team placed 5th in their heat. The team has 10 - 20 minutes to present a skill derived directly from the TEKS for Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. Our team presentation in over the use of a transit level. They demonstrate how to set up, use, and tear down a transit. They also explain the proper procedures for each step, as well as employability, pay, and what the transit is used for.
In the Creed Speaking, Tatum placed 5th and Abi was 9th in their heat. Creed speaking is an event where members must memorize and recite the FFA Creed, and then answer questions related to the Creed. Though Creed speaking sounds easy, judges are looking for passion, body language, and quality of voice. The speakers must also be able to think on their feet in order to effectively answer questions.
These teams will compete at the Big Country District contest on November 18th.
I am very proud of each of these students, and applaud their willingness to step out of their comfort zones and try something new! They all represented our FFA Chapter, school, and community extremely well. Congratulations on a job well done!
