The Santa Anna High School Tennis team played at their district match on Thursday, March 28. Even though the day came with some challenges including the wind, Santa Anna pushed through.
Starting with JV teams, Savanah Perry got 3rd place for girls singles with scores of (7-6 (7-4), 6-1) against Eden, (0-6, 0-6) against Menard, and a forfeit for the last match. Kristen Jones for girls singles had a tough match first round knocking her out in the quarterfinals. Anthony Calfa and James Kirkpatrick got 2nd place for boys doubles after playing a tiring match against Paint Rock. Their score was (1-6, 2-6).
Now for the Varsity teams, Marin Guthrie got 1st place for girls singles. After a bye in the first round Marin had scores of (6-1, 6-0) against Paint Rock’s number 2, and (6-2, 6-4) against Paint Rock’s number 1. Angelica Calfa played the number 3 seed in the tournament, Menard, and was knocked out in the quarterfinals after a tough competition. Domanic Enriquez got 2nd place for boys singles with scores of (6-0, 6-0) against Paint Rock, (6-4, 7-6 (7-4) against Eden, and (4-6, 4-6) against Rance Railsback in the finals. Rance Railsback got 1st place for boys singles. After a bye in the first round, Rance’s scores were ( 6-1, 6-2) against Eden, and (6-4, 6-4) against Domanic Enriquez.
Marin Guthrie, Domanic Enriquez, and Rance Railsback will advance to Regionals.
At the day's end, the Santa Anna Tennis team was awarded Boys and Girls Tennis, District 12-A Runner-Up.
Their coach could not be more proud of this team and all the hard work they have put in so far this season.
