Mateo Esteban Lara is the son of Steve and Johanna Lara. He is a four year student council member, serving as vice president his junior year and President this past year. He has been his class president all four years. He is a two year member of the basketball team, and a four year member of the football, track, and tennis teams. He’s been on the A/B honor roll all four years and is a two year member of the NHS. He’s also a four year 4-H member where he’s been a state qualifier in the nutrition quiz bowl for two years. He has participated in UIL for three years: both social studies and number sense for one year; Literary criticism for the last three years where he qualified for regional as a junior; Mathematics for three years and was a member of the state qualifiying team as a junior; calculator applications for three years, qualifying for state two years, this year being a member of the 2nd place team. Mateo’s plans are to attend Hardin Simmons University for a degree in exercise science and then pursue a career in physical therapy.
Chase Hardy McIver is the son of Brandi McIver and Grady McIver. Chase is a four year member of the student council. He is also a four year competitor in UIL in both social studies and current events. His freshman, sophomore, and senior years he qualified in both areas for regional. His sophomore year he advanced to state competition in current events. He is a four year member of the state ranked Mountaineer Band where he serves as drum major and section leader. He played football, basketball, and tennis all four years and ran cross country one year. He’s received various athletic honors including honorable mention at district in basketball his junior and senior years, SAHS offensive player of the year that same year, and sportsmanship award in tennis as well as advancing to regional competition. His sophomore year he was Academic all district. He has been on the A/B honor roll all four years, as well as receiving class awards in world history and American history in addition to the Woodmen of the World History Award. He is a two year member of the NHS. Chase plans to attend the University of North Texas and major in sports journalism.
