Basketball Teams Compete in Lohn Tourney

girls basketball team playing Lohn

The varsity girls participated in the Lohn tournament this last weekend. The girls came away with a 3rd Place trophy.

The first day of the tournament, the girls faced Robert Lee and lost by 13 points. The girls played tough and fought the entire game. On Friday, the Lady Mountaineers faced Lohn and won by a margin of more than 30 points. On Saturday, the girls competed in the 3rd place game and came away with a 6 point victory over Lometa. Each girl on the roster contributed in a positive way this weekend and that was great to see. Kloey Guerrero was named to the All Tournament Team.

This week the girl's have a tough road ahead of them as they will face state ranked Eula in district action on Tuesday. Friday they will face a feisty and big Baird team.

The Santa Anna Mountaineers finished up their tournament games this weekend. They played Paint Rock on Saturday in the consolation round of the tourney. After a slow start to the game, the boys got back with 4 at half time. By the end of the 3rd quarter it was tied up and they were rolling. The fourth quarter started and the Mountaineers gained the lead and never looked back. They finished the game with a win and the score of 51-39, holding Paint Rock to only 6 points in the 4th quarter. Top scorers for us: Chase McIver had 16, Alex Crowder had 15, DJ Mattes put up 8, Jayton Perry and Trace Garrett both finished with 5. Chase McIver was named All Tournament in the Lohn tourney. The boys played a better defensive game and keep improving each week. They travel to Eden on Tuesday for the last non-district game of the pre-season.
