The Varsity girls basketball team competed and fought hard in the Gustine tournament. The girls were successful with dominating victories over Eastland JV and Mullin.
On Saturday, the girls took on Ranger in the championship game. Ranger took a demanding lead, but the Lady Mountaineers dug deep and rallied back. In the end, they fell short by a couple of baskets. Their effort and determination made the game exciting. Ranger (2a) school had a lot of size, but the girls did not waver in their effort. They played with heart and took 2nd Place.
Kloey Guerrero, Marin Guthrie, and Alexis Donham all showed consistent scoring throughout the tournament. Madison Diaz played a solid tournament as well and gave the Lady Mountaineers a boost of energy when it was needed. Adalee Donham came in off the bench and gave the team solid minutes, with great hustle.
The girls start district play tonight against Rising Star. The team is ready to display their hard work and effort for the hometown crowd.
Last week the boys high school team traveled to Gustine for a tournament. Playing Ranger in the first round proved to be a challenge for the Mountaineers. The Ranger team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Mountaineers battled the whole game, but came up short at the end. Leading scorer was Chase McIver with 8 points, followed by Alex Crowder with 4. On Friday the Mountaineers played Mullin in the second round and played them very well for a half with the score being 17 – 19 in favor of Mullin. The second half started and the Mullin coaches made a few adjustments and were able to pull of the win in the end. High point scorers were Chase with 10, DJ Mattes with 5, Alex, Jacob, and Jayton with 3 each. The varsity travel to Lohn Tuesday night with a 6:30 tip off.
